A multimedia exploration where medicine, art, storytelling, and artificial intelligence converge to ask one haunting question: What happens when Al tries to feel?
Conceived by Jonathan Bank, MD, in collaboration with Al artist and photographer Tanja Schalling, filmmaker Stefanie Aichner, designer Olivia Russin, and creative writer Maria Schaffer, Regenerate dives deep into the emotional architecture of healing while blurring the boundaries between human and machine perception.
Together, we set out to explore what unfolds when the mind, body, and artificial intelligence meet in the space between loss and renewal.
At its core, Regenerate traces the mental landscape of nine women facing breast cancer or genetic mutation throughout mastectomy, treatment, and reconstruction. The journey itself becomes the protagonist, exposing the complex layers behind emotional recovery.
Here we invite Al to interpret what the human heart feels but cannot always say. We ask it to decode what pain looks like— and what healing feels like. Can it translate emotion, or will it always mistake reflection for empathy?
In Regenerate, emotion becomes data—
and the algorithm begins to learn what it means to be human.
Bold. Abstract. Sentient.
This isn't about recovery.
It's about regeneration-of body, of mind, of meaning.
